Types of Climbing Wall
Innovations over the last 10 yrs have led to great advancements in wall design and construction that now even involve hydraulics. In the past good Indoor Climbing Walls were made of stones inset in concrete with block constructed holds and chiselled brick edges. Now you have:
Plywood Panels: These are 18-22mm Marine Ply walls cut into a matrix of triangles or square / rectangular pieces to make interesting climbing angles full with a high density of hold fixing points.
Glass Fibre Resin: Free formed to make very realistic climbing features covered in hold attachment points.
Spray Concrete: Concrete free formed presents a tough outer shell that can be molded over reinforced steel to present some very strong and whacky shapes.
Good walls normally mix these styles or have a hybrid make up of the different types. We can discuss the pro’s and con’s of each type and always build climbing walls that are future proof to maximise user interest and functionality.
